Wedding Stress Management

A large wedding is such a mammoth undertaking that there’s so much that can go wrong.  That’s part of the reason that many brides become stressed out.  There’s even a term for such brides – Bridezillas.

But before you morph into a Bridezilla, there are some wedding stress management tips you can follow.

First, realise that getting married is one of the more stressful events you will experience in your life.  Not only are there a million and two details to think of, there’s also the emotional strain of committing to another person for the rest of your life.

Second, brides like to say “it’s my day.”  But, really, it’s many people’s day.  Mothers of the Bride and Mothers in law demand to have a lot of input.  You have to decide up front how you are going to handle this and then stick to your guns.  You will have less stress though if you see the wedding as a communal event of which you are the major but not the only participant.

Third, realise that very few brides have limitless budgets.  You are going to have to make some decisions on which things are worth the extra money.  There will be times that you’ll have to accept having second best.  Make a list of the things that are really important to you and be willing to concede on the rest.

Fourth, know that things are not always going to go right.  The DJs computer goes down in the middle of the Bride and Groom’s first dance or a bartender spills red wine on your mother’s new dress.  Have contingency plans where ever you can, and have a sense of humour about the things that you can’t control.

Finally, when things get awful, remember that this is supposed to be the happiest day of your life.  This is about the love you share with your intended and sharing that happiness with your friends and family.  At its core, the wedding is not about whether the veal was cold or the flowers weren’t what you expected, it’s a salute to your commitment to each other.

The more you can have a philosophic perspective of the wedding, the happier, and less stressed out, you’ll be.
